New York’s Catholics have plenty to feel good about as we enter 2022. For one thing, we can be proud of the major part that Catholic charitable organizations have played in responding to the hardships many in our region have suffered since the onset of Covid-19 two years ago. At the heart of this issue of Archways is “Charity Now,” a package of stories that features an interview with Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, on the increasing needs in our communities and the efforts being made to meet them; profiles of parish-based charitable ministries selflessly performing service to the needy and marginalized; and an in-depth look at a successful regional program to help rebuild the lives of individuals recovering from substance abuse disorder, based in Monticello and operated by Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster.
