Archways aims, as always, to keep you informed about the programs and services available to you through the Archdiocese of New York and to tell you about important things happening throughout our 10 counties. We also recognize the need to present this information in context. That’s why you’ll find stories on the archdiocese’s procedures regarding reporting sexual abuse by clergy and its plans to strengthen and enhance our aggressive protocols to prevent abuse.
At the same time, we recognize that the Church remains, in the words of Cardinal Dolan, “a mighty instrument of Christ’s mercy and love in the world.” Now that Advent has begun, bringing the start of a new liturgical year, Archways is celebrating the good works of all sorts of Catholics: youth ministers, chaplains, sisters, priests and lay leaders working to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, comfort the afflicted, and teach the Gospel. Our cover story recognizes some of these shining examples.
