In this issue of Archways, we humbly crack open the door to let in some light. We have much to be thankful for. New York is blessed in its association with an extraordinary roster of saints and holy ones, both home-grown and immigrant, from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton to Mother Cabrini, Pierre Toussaint to Dorothy Day. Our cover story, “Saints/Heroes of New York,” tells their stories and also profiles the work and dedication of some contemporary Catholics who are following in their footsteps: priests, nuns, health-care professionals and community members who have stepped up to help us and our neighbors in a time of need. Their stories offer inspiration and a reminder that Jesus is among us.
